Matt Pallant - Assistant Musical Director


Originally from Chester but now studying a Music degree at Bath Spa University, Matt is a pianist, violinist, drummer, conductor and Musical Director with a wealth of knowledge in many musical situations.

Now 21, Matt started his musical life at the age of 6 after taking up violin lessons at school. Two years later he began to learn the piano and subsequently picked up the drums. From then on he progressed to a high level on each of his chosen instruments and performs/gigs on all three regularly.

Matt has performed at a large range of venues, particularly in Bath, including Bath Abbey, The Pump Rooms (Bath), Wells Cathedral, The Assembly Rooms (Bath), St Michaels Without, The Rondo and Mission Theatres, Bath, Chapel Arts Centre and Bristol Hippodrome and has played in ensembles including string quartets, Bath Spa University Orchestra, Georgian Band and Choir, big bands, dance bands, string ensembles and many show/pit bands as well as touring in Italy with a Concert Band and Dance Band and being an accompanist at the 2010 and 2011 Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts.


Matt has been involved in a diverse mix of performances in his career and has played, been Musical Director, vocal coach or been involved in the production of many shows including Oliver!, Fame, High School Musical on Stage, Grease, The Lion King and The Producers in recent years. In July 2011 Matt was Musical Director of The Big Act’s 48 Hour Challenge, putting together a performance of Fame in just 48 hours before it was performed in Bristol Hippodrome. His classical work includes performing Mozart’s Requiem in Wells Cathedral, two runs of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Bizet’s Carmen, conducting the Bath Spa University Choir in Bath Abbey, rehearsal conductor for Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, and recently under Bath Phil’s conductor Jason Thornton in performances of Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, Rautavaara’s Cantus Arcticus, Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances and Rachmaninoff’s 3rd Piano Concerto (soloist Peter Donohoe) with the Bath Spa University Music Department.
